“When
in doubt, leave it out”, is a practical and well followed advice. This
should have been Apple’s motto when it launched its version of maps.
Google was unceremoniously dumped and Apple decided to go its own way.
This literally led many people lose their way as Apple map wasn’t
accurate and its 3D feature wasn’t up to the mark.
However, after several months of waiting, Google is launching its maps for iOS. And there is already an exciting buzz on the web and a sigh of relief for all the users of iPhone. Apple’s maps, though beautiful in comparison, suffered from many mistakes. Google maps on the other hand, had practicality on its side. And it won.
The latest offering from Google has voice assistance, turn-by-turn navigation and the popular street view. Information on public transit has also been made available. Other features include Google Instant, which gives you the location of the café you are searching for as you type it. Maps History is a needy tool, so it becomes easier for you to track your previous locations. This means the way to your office and back home is synced well with your Google account.
The app is available in Apple’s app store. If your device runs version 5.1 or higher of iOS, this is a welcome download for you. The good news for iPhone users in India is the map can be used in our country too, unlike Apple’s map.
