Lets just say that YouTube and Brazil are not getting along right
now. Google recently had some trouble in Brazil when a court ordered the
arrest of a Google executive. The arrest was issued after Google
refused to take down a political video from YouTube. The video is said
to have criticized a mayoral candidate in the country.
In Googles defense it is hard to uphold freedoms of speech when they issue arrest warrants that target Google executives. The best move might be to manage their interests in Brazil from further away. The company has tried to uphold freedom of speech by refusing to address a number of take-down demands from governments around the world, but this is a new tactic from those who hate free speech.
Google filed an appeal against the decision, but it was rejected and now Google has decided to ban the video in Brazil. Sadly. How long until we see other countries using this tactic?
