Every time a new gadgets gets released, I eagerly await someone to come along and take them apart and show me what they look like on the inside. The photos are always these pristine tables with each piece delicately separated and neatly organized. All of the time and effort that went into engineering these parts, and then into the little containers we use them in, it’s always really impressive to see. Of course, there’s a much faster way to get inside a device, as long as you’re not overly interested in turning it on again.
Smashing things to bits is a process typically reserved for those who have had enough of customer support asking them if they are sure they rebooted the phone, but artist Michael Tompert has taken things to a whole new level.
Tompert has taken amazingly high resolution photos, all of Apple products that he has utterly destroyed in one way or another. Some of them have been shot or been hit with a sledgehammer, while others simply got lit on fire.
Each of the photos is available to view on his website, with a magnifying effect when you hover over an image to allow you to really see the dust and debris of what used to be a perfectly functional device. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be any videos of the former Apple employee in the act of creating his art, but the images themselves are a stunning reminder of how much is going on inside the gadgets we use every day.
I wonder if he will update the gallery with the iPhone 5?
