As we know rooting (You can refer tutorial here to root your galaxy s3 with only few simple step) is what allows users to easily replace the smartphone’s stock firmware with a different one.  Ever since the process was discovered, developers have been making their own custom ROMs and distributing them throughout the Android community. If you have been around the android community for a while, you most likely will have heard of CM or Cyanogen (Mod).
CyanogenMod is a customized, aftermarket firmware distribution for select Android devices. Intended as a replacement for the firmware that comes factory installed on your smartphone, CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project – the same base software used in all Android devices. However, CyanogenMod offers several benefits over the pre-installed firmware, including vastly flexible interface and customization, a wider set of new features, and sometimes significant improvements in performance. So, the benefit of using the CM roms is all the manufacturers ‘bloat ware’ is removed, think of it as a stripped back, faster version of android, the kind installed on the Nexus range of Google phones.
